Interviews

We'll be featuring a different student profile here periodically in the hopes of giving prospective students a feel of what it's like to be a student at CD-ED.

Graduate Brandy Gamberg

Brandy is one of our many stay-at-home moms who found the flexibility of our programs key to being able to continue to enjoy her children while investing in her own education.

The Experience

  • Q. What drew you to the programs at CD-ED?
    • I was watching television one day and I saw a commercial for CD-ED and I called.
  • Q. Why did you then decide to take a home-study college program from CD-ED?
    • I was a single parent trying to work to support my daughter so doing a home study college program would allow me to work and do my schooling at the same time and also allow me time for my daughter.
  • Q. What were your expectations of distance education?
    • Honestly, the only experience I had ever had with home-study was aweful. When I started my program I was impressed that someone really was there to help you in a timely manner. My other experience you could never get a hold of an instructor when you needed help. I loved that with CD-ED.
  • Q. Was the program at all what you expected? If so, how? If not, why?
    • My expectations of distance for education were that they would provided me with the same kind of education that I would receive if I were to attend an actual college. The program was what I expected, they covered everything that you need to know.
  • Q. Which part of the course did you find the most challenging?
    • I took the Medical Office Administration course and I found remembering all the terminology was the most challenging for me.
  • Q. Which part of the course was the most enjoyable?
    • The most enjoyable part of the course for me was learning about the different functions of the body, even the skin; I found it interesting.
  • Q. What was the highlight of the program for you?
    • The highlight of the program for me was I wrote my typing test and I passed and then received my diploma.

Studying

  • Q. How was the instructor support during your program?
    • The instructor support during my program was excellent. I had really good instructors who were there for me whenever I needed help.
  • Q. How did you schedule your study time to work around your home life?
    • I scheduled my study time by taking 2 hours a day which was always in the evening to do my studying.
  • Q. Once you found the time to study, how difficult was the actual material?
    • I didn't find the material hard at all. There were a few times I had a little bit of difficulty but I called my instructor and they helped me through it.
  • Q. Do you feel your program had the most up-to-date materials?
    • Yes I do feel that my program had the most up to date materials. i have a friend who took the same course through George Brown College and she told me what took her 2-3 years to learn I was able to learn in one year.
  • Q. Who contributed the most support towards your completion of the program?
    • I would say Ii contributed the most support towards my completion of my program. I was determined to graduate so I could better provided for my daughter.

After Graduation

  • Q. Are you employed?
    • I am currently not working, I am home with my children. I am expecting again so after I have the baby I will be applying to the science health center which is the hospital here in Newfoundland.

On a Personal Note

  • Q. Would you feel comfortable recommending CD-ED to a friend or co-worker?
    • Yes, I would feel comfortable recommending CD-ED to friends and coworkers. I have recommended CD-ED to a few friends.
  • Q. Do you have any advice for students taking a program with CD-ED?
    • While you are taking your program, if you are able, try to either work or volunteer in the program you are studying so you can have hands on experience. A lot of employers are looking for 3-5 years experience so if you graduate but have no experience it's harder to get a job in your field.
